Discuss this idea

Start with a manageable pilot.

Start with one supported school. Agree on a small, achievable set of accessibility improvements, based on the school’s needs and a qualified review.

A practical way to begin.

Listen and assess

Walk through the school with its team, learners and an accessibility professional. Identify obstacles to participation.

Agree on practical changes

Prioritise appropriate entrances, accessible routes, toilets, classroom furniture or learning materials. Obtain a costed plan before approval.

Check the improvement

Ask the school and learners whether the changes are usable. Provide a maintenance owner and a follow-up review.

The right people around the table.

School leadership, an accessibility professional and qualified rehabilitation specialists where individual support is required.

What to track.

Completed improvements, usability feedback, maintenance checks and participation barriers resolved. Do not substitute the number of items bought for evidence of usefulness.

What approval needs.

A named delivery partner, a locally assessed need, an agreed scope, a costed budget, a responsible owner and a reporting plan. Suggested durations are planning options, not announced commitments.

Reference: UNICEF on inclusive education. For assistive-device pathways, DEPwD’s ARJUN portal describes professional assessment and prescription. These are external resources, not announced partners.
