Trees

Roots for the
next generation.

At the request of the Government of Rajasthan, we are preparing to plant native trees in the state, and to care for each one until it can stand on its own.

IN PREPARATION
WHERE OUR WORK BEGINS.

We take from the earth.
We give back.

Waldies works with metals and minerals, so everything we make begins in the earth. The Foundation is how we return the favour: to the people around us through education and health, and to the land itself through trees.

  • RootsWhat we draw from the earth.
  • BlossomsEducation and health for the people around us.
  • LeavesNative trees we plant and care for.
HOW A TREE GROWS

Planting is one day.
Care takes years.

A sapling needs protection and water long after planting day. Our plan follows each tree until its roots can find water on their own.

  1. Planting day

A native sapling in a tree guard, planted with the monsoon.

  2. Year 1

Watered through its first dry summer.

  3. Year 3

Roots deep enough to find water on their own.

  4. Year 10

Shade, fruit and a home for birds.

OUR APPROACH

Four steps.
Every tree.

How we intend to plant and care for each sapling. Sites, species and dates will be confirmed with the relevant government departments.

01

Plant with the monsoon.

Planting in July and August gives saplings the best start in a dry climate.

02

Guard every sapling.

Each one gets a tree guard to protect it from grazing animals.

03

Water through the dry months.

Saplings are watered through their first two summers.

04

Count what survives.

Every year we count the trees that are alive, and publish that number.

NATIVE TO RAJASTHAN

Trees that belong
in a dry land.

Native species suit the climate and support local wildlife. The final choice will follow local forest department guidance.

Khejri

Rajasthan’s state tree. It thrives in dry soil, and its leaves feed livestock.

Rohida

Rajasthan’s state flower, a hardy timber tree with bright orange blossoms.

Neem

Deep shade, and a medicine tree known in every Indian home.

Peepal

A long-lived shade tree for village squares and schools.

Arjun

Grows well beside ponds and streams.

Jamun

A fruit tree for schools and villages.

Why trees.

Waldies works with metals and minerals. Everything we make begins in the earth, so planting and caring for trees is a direct way to give back to the land.

What we will report.

We will report how many trees are alive each year, not how many saplings were planted. Sites, dates and partners will be published once confirmed.

Care, not offsets.

Tree planting is presented as care for the land and the communities around it. We do not present it as a carbon offset.
